Awards:
In 1921 I received the Poetry Society of America Prize, then the Guggenheim fellowship award in 1926 and Pulitzer Prize in 1929 for John Brown's Body. I also received the O. Henry Award in 1932, 1937, and 1940. In 1933 I received the Mary Shelley Memorial Award, in 1943 the American Academy Gold Medal, and in 1944 the Pulitzer Prize for Western Star after my death.
I am best known for my narrative poem John Brown's Body and for my two short stories, The Devil and Daniel Webster and By the Waters of Babylon.
